Why we do countertops

The countertop crew used to be what held up our kitchens

Countertops, cabinet refinishing, tile, and flooring run hand in hand. The trouble is that not every contractor keeps a schedule or returns a call the way Simpli Painted does, and for years a countertop crew that showed up late or went quiet was what held up our cabinet projects.

So eight years ago we vetted countertop companies across Charlotte and chose a couple we were willing to put our name behind. Since then we have facilitated countertops in Charlotte and the towns around it for our customers’ kitchens: we make the introduction, stay in the loop, and hold the countertop contractor to the same communication and schedule we hold ourselves to.

You get the peace of mind you already get from us on the cabinets. The countertop company keeps our stamp of approval only as long as they earn it.

Help Choosing Your Stone

Before anything is cut

We go over seams, edge profiles, overhangs, and sink cutouts with you, and match the stone to your cabinet color.

Choose your stone

Quartz, granite, quartzite, or marble

Quartz is engineered stone; the other three are natural. Each has a different look, a different price, and a different upkeep. Tell us how you cook and how you live with your counters, and we will point you to the two or three slabs worth looking at. Quartz lines include Cambria and MSI. Or read our quartz vs. granite vs. quartzite vs. marble comparison.

Questions

Countertop and backsplash questions we hear most

How long does a countertop replacement take?

7 to 14 days from stone selection to install.

How much do new countertops cost?

In Charlotte, about $40 to $180 per square foot installed, depending on the stone and the slab you pick. Our countertop cost calculator gives you a price range for your kitchen in about a minute.

Can I keep my cabinets and only replace the countertops?

Yes. New tops are templated to the cabinets you already have. If the cabinet finish is worn, refinishing them at the same time is the way to get a new-looking kitchen without replacing anything structural.

Do you do backsplashes?

In the Charlotte metro, yes. We refer homeowners to a backsplash installer we work with. Mention it when you reach out and we will put you in touch.

Which comes first, the cabinets or the countertops?

Either order can work, and it depends on your kitchen and your schedule. Tell us at the quote stage that you want both and we will plan the sequence with you.

Who actually installs the countertops?

A countertop contractor we vetted and have worked with for years. We make the introduction, stay involved through install, and hold them to our standard for communication and schedule.

Do I have to refinish my cabinets to use this?

No. You can come to us for the countertops alone. If the cabinets are in good shape, we will say so.

Where do you install countertops?

Everywhere we refinish cabinets, not just Charlotte. Backsplash referrals are for the Charlotte metro.

Can I pick my own slab?

Yes, and we recommend it. We send you to the wholesale stone yard closest to you. Give them our name, walk the yard, and tag the exact slab you want. Slabs are first come, first served, so once you find the one, claim it. From there it goes to our fabricator.

What is included in a countertop quote?

Fabrication, your edge profile, the sink cutout, tear-out and haul-away of the old tops if you want it, and installation. Plumbing is the one thing you line up separately.

Do you handle the plumbing?

No. Disconnecting and reconnecting the sink and faucet is not part of our countertop work, so plan on a plumber for that, usually $125 to $350.

Does going through you cost more than going straight to a fabricator?

It should not. We send our fabricators steady work and get volume pricing, and your quote is one price for fabrication, edge, sink cutout, tear-out, and install. You also get one point of contact who holds the countertop crew to our schedule.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. Up to 21 months interest-free financing, if qualified, on countertops and cabinet refinishing. Ask when you request your quote.

Is quartz cheaper than granite?

At the entry level, granite usually is. Common granite colors start around $40 per square foot installed in Charlotte, compared with about $50 for quartz. Popular veined quartz and rare granite can cost about the same, so compare the slabs you like, not the categories.

Can I put a hot pan on quartz?

Use a trivet. The resin in quartz can scorch or discolor under a hot pan. Granite and quartzite handle heat better, though a trivet still protects the sealer.
